    I'm rebuilding my carbs ('82 XJ650) and searched for some new shaft seals online. Found a source that sells 8 for $20. I was sure the originals are not available so I tried to find out what this guy is selling. He wouldn't explain exactly what they are, but I am pretty sure they are nothing more than an O-ring or quad-ring. And I thought $3 a gallon for gas was gouging! Can someone tell me if there is something available out there that is superior to a 20 cent quad O-ring and worth $2.50 each?

    Quite a profit. More than likely he is selling QR-011 double seal orings from a supplier. I get mine from McMaster-Carr. They have QR-011's for about $10 a package. That's 100 to a package too! Some prefer the QR-012 because neither is an exact fit. Most have used the 011's because they fit the shaft well and that is the part that turns. We seal them into the carb body with a fuel grade RTV sealant because they are not a tight fit into the carb body. The 012's fit the body well but are a little large for the shaft. They can be ordered at www.mcmaster.com. Tyoe AS568A in the search box and click on the dropdown menu for the dash number. Then select the -011 or -012.

    Paypal or quarters taped to a piece of cardboard is fine ;^}

    Ok so i rebuilt my carbs. Took them all apart to soak them. Got them all together now i have a major leak. :( I think its coming from the throttle assembly linking all the carbs together. Is this the Butterfly shaft seals? I looked on the diagram on yamaha parts and it didnt show any o rings that i could see. Oh and by the way my bike is an 80' xj650 maxim.

    If you soaked them without removing the throttle shafts, then the carb dip has ate them up. You'll have to get new ones.

    Also the same thing with the idle mixture screw orings.

    This will entail removing the carbs from the rack and removing the shafts.

    Then you will have to do the carb sync. and colortune when you reassemble them. Be sure to set the float levels off the bike before you install the carbs.

    yes they are the same.
    The idle mixture screws are on the top side of the carbs.
    If they have never been messed with they may still have the original tamper proof plugs installed. Look for small round aluminum disks 1/4" to 3/8" dia.
    If thats the case you can remove them by drilling carefully thru the disks, about 1/8" thick then insert a sheet metal screw that fits snugly into the plug. Then you can take a pair of pliers and pull and rock back and forth to remove the plugs.

    If you purchase new carb kits, new plugs will be supplied.
    if not you can get small plastic button caps from lowes or or any hardware store to replace when your finished.
    Good luck, and let us know if you need more help.

    Under the plugs you'll find the mixture screws.
    When you remove the screws there will be tiny washers with orings located inside the bore.
    You can get new orings from Mcmaster-Carr.

    If you need new washers I have some stainlees steel ones left from my carb build. PM me with your snail mail and i'll send you 4 new ones.
