Hey guys I have a maxim 400 (kind of an xj) I picked it up cheap and finally got it running, but its missing the front caliper and the maxim/seca weren't popular and I'm having a difficult time sourcing one.

It looks like an xj750 and maxim/seca 400 share brake calipers, same mounting holes brake pads etc. I just haven't been able to confirm this.
Can anyone confirm if a xj550 650 or 750 has interchangeable brakes? looks like yamaha has 2 different types of caliper mounts some with the bolts 4-5 inches apart and short mounts like on the xj750 and maxim400 2-3 inches apart.

I only know this from looking at lots of pictures and bikes, my other bike is a SR500 and the caliper has long mount holes.

Yamaha has a lot more than two types of calipers and mounts.

The XJ550s, Seca 750 and XJ1100 share a caliper "style" that is NOT the same as yours.

However, your caliper IS the same as that used on the '82 ~'83 750 Maxim as well as the '84 RZ350L. And all the other "half an XJ" 400s of course.

You can still get a brand new one from Yamaha too, for about $286.00.
