    OK, I get grease gun technique, and the pump-brake-fluid technique, but here's what may be a stupid question. I'm not sure I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing.

    This caliper has the piston installed with the open end pressing on the pads. This can't be right can it?

    That is right, the open end of the piston faces the brake pads.

    One pad is stationary the other pad is pushed toward the rotor by the piston. This what makes the brakes work. Rotor is squeezed between the pads.
