Hi guys. Whats the procedure for timing the cams on the 750 seca? I know number one cylinder should be at top dead center, but what do the dots line up with on the camshafts? Do they point away from each other even with the cylinder head? Thanks in advance

The dots line up with the little arrows cast into the cam caps, when the timing pointer is on (I believe) the "T" mark, with #1 on TDC.

Any pics? It will probly be self explanatory when im looking at it but better safe than sorry. Also, what position will the dots be in relation to the bike when they line up with the arrows? Thanks

You need a manual. Full of pics, they are.

The dots will be pretty much straight up. There are little, well crafted, raised arrows cast onto the tops of the inner cam caps and they point toward the flange on the cams where the "dots" are.

It's not really all that self explanatory though. Honestly, get a book before you hurt the motor.

Its a chore just to find a book for this bike. Clymer, haynes, ebay, no dice. If i could find a pdf download, free or bought id be happy with that.

It shouldn't be. I have the Haynes for the 650/750 Series; it has a nice picture of a 750 Seca on the cover, and it's available everywhere. Since it's not the most accurate book in the world, I also have the factory service manual for my 650 Seca (rarer than the 750) as well as the dealer assembly manual. The factory book was bought on-line; the dealer assembly manuals came off eBay as did all of my 550 books.

    The Haynes: http://www.haynes.com/products/productID/389

    On Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Haynes-Yamaha-650 ... B0007ZHA2O

Factory book on eBay, $18.00 "Buy Now" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-X ... Literature

    They're available.

I highly recommend having both. The Haynes offers a lot of "DIY" solutions to facctory tools; the factory book doesn't have all the mistakes that are in the one-siz-fits-all Haynes.

I bought a pdf manual and it covers the XJ650 and XJ750. The manual is obviously wrong in regards to how to line up the cam. If i were to line up the dots on the cam sprocket to the arrows it would put the cam lobes for 1+4 straight on the valves depressing them completely and bending the valves. It is obviously speaking for the 650 judging by the design of the cam sprockets.

Can someone please help me here. I just spent alot of money on this manual and dont want to buy another that is the same thing.

The setup is the same for 650/750s.
If you line everything up and your cam's lobes are pointed in, your sprockets are NOT installed correctly on your cams.

RJ merely indicates a 1982 Seca. R for Seca, J for 82 model year.

Ok guys. Im an idiot. I was trying to align the dot on the CAM SPROCKET to the arrow instead of the dot on the CAM right beside the cam cap.

I really appreciate everyone helping me out in this even though i sounded like i didnt know what the heck i was talking about. In my defense though, the book doesnt show a pic of the dot and is indescript in describing the procedure.
