hey guys. i think i have made a mistake and need some help. I am doing a top end job on my 84 XJ 750. all has been going well, but now during assembly i have just realized that i forgot to mark the position of my camshaft. i know which is inlet and exhaust cam and which side goes where. but what i am wondering is the exact rotational position to get it back sitting in the correct position.
Am i screwed? or is this something that can easily be taken care of? I realize that i should have placed a mark on the cam to indicate its up position, but i was paying too much attention to the manual that was telling me to make sure i know which cam is inlet/exhaust.
Any info on help would be greatly appreciated. Im hoping that it does not have to go into a garage as i cant really afford that right now.

    thanks all.

Nope, you're not in trouble.... You just added extra work for yourself. You'll have to approach this as if you are finishing an engine rebuild. So you'll have to set your engine to a specific point in the rotation sequence. To do so, remove the left engine cover so you can see the timing plate. You'll need a 19mm wrench so you can turn the engine by hand via the square boss that is centered on the timing stuff.

Others here will have the pages from the service manual for the specifics.

Don't panic, you'll be ok..... It'll just take you a bit longer now, that's all.
