I have just got this XJ650 off ebay (uk). It was advertised as a 1983 American import, Ive managed to work out (thanks to the info available on this website) that it is a 1980 XJ650 G. Japanese Spec. (4L6)
Would anyone know what the warning light in the Tacho is for?

Based on the Kanji charactesr on the tach, and the KMH speedometer, that is a Japanese import (the gauges are anyway). I believe the light is a shift light, but that's just a guess.

    Low fuel light.
Try draining the tank and see. The low fuel light will take about 5 minutes to come on if it works.

Gday frank. I have an 81 xj 750 Japanese import but the red light on mine is on the speedo side. Mine comes on at 80km/h and will stay on once above that speed. Drop below 80 km/h, light goes out. Mine also has similar Japanese writing to your tacho side.

Hey I been looking to see what that red light is all about on my XJ750, when I was cleaning up the clocks and took the speedo out, the bulb was missing from the red warning light, so I put it back and was wondering wtf does the red light keep coming on for, now I know why it was taken out haha and yeah mine comes on at 80 kph too

it is the low oil light. if it comes on you are low on oil. very important to have this light working

says your a new member but your profile posts say you have been here when Bigfitz was here.

so which 750 are we talking about? which cluster that is being use makes a difference in which oil level switch you have

you could be low on oil , have a short in the wire to the oil sender unit.

it would be better to start your own thread so we do not get confused:confused:

    Well.....
-if you have the red light that was on the OP, then it's a speed warning......
-if you're talking about the red light in the center square on a '83 750 maxim, then it's a low oil warning
-if you're talking about the red flashing warning light on a 750 Seca, or a non-1983 750 maxim, the it's a warning light that means you have to look at the Atari to see what is warning you about.....if you have replaced the battery, then it's PROBABLY flashing because you likely didn't replace or bypass the battery sensor.

If you show us a pic of YOUR light that you are asking about, we can be a whole lot more specific.
