I say carb mixture screws turn out to richen as per factory pro website cv tuning.

Mechanic ( race one at that and clever guy BUT) he says if the mixture screw is at the back of the carb its turn out to richen , but if its cylinder side of the carb ( like on our XJ's) then its turn in to richen.

this has thrown me as I have read similar to both arguments on the web .
I know my ZX6 mixture screw is airbox side and its out to richen . now I am running round in circles , help

Out = richer - because the screw controls rate of gasoline flow through the pilot circuit...

As far as i know, if it's on the air side, it's an air valve for the pilot circuit. (out is more air in is more fuel - less air)

If it's on the cylinder side, like ours, it's out to richen, and in to lean it out.

My 83 XJ750K out to enrich mixture, in to lean the mixture.

It makes no difference which side it is on. It is simply a metering screw that adjust the mixture either before, or after the fuel has been vaporized. Out will increase/richen the mixture. In will decrease/lean the mixture.

Generally speaking the Mechanic is wrong. In MOST cases a screw at the back is out=lean, at the front of carb out=rich.
