    Hi,

So I want to check if my 1998 yamaha xj600n has a certificate of conformity and I need both the VIN and engine number. I've located the VIN but I can't find the engine number to save my life! According to the manual it's stamped on the crankcase but I've looked everywhere and the only engraved numbers I could find is the one in the picture I added which doesn't look like the engine number to me. I'm I just blind or is it actually located somewhere else?

    A quick google revealed this.
To add to this, you may have a Japanese domestic market bike, I don't believe they had a number in the hatched area either, well mine doesn't.

pictured here above the clutch cover,
just curious, why do you need a "certificate of conformity" whatever that is, a registration certificate is obtainable, with just the vin number

if it was a replacment motor it would not have a vin number stamped into it
