    Hi Guys

I have been pondering these carb boots. The '80 Maxim I am working on has some cracks in the boot bodies and around the vaccum ports. I cleaned them with scotch brite and brake clean, then painted them with high temp black gasket RTV. It seems to have adhered well. In case this does not work, I came across this site that sells replacement boots.

I have read alot about these bolt breaking off into the head. Is there any precaution that can be taken if they have to come out? Should they be heated or soaked somehow. What is the experience of others on these bolts breaking. Sounds like it happens a lot.

    Thanks

Finding replacement intake manifolds isn't the problem; changing them without breaking bolts is.

First off, unless those cracks go all the way through, there's no need to replace the manifolds. They are quite often horribly cracked yet perfectly fine, as long as the cracks don't go all the way through. The best way to check is to flex them from the inside.

The bolts that tend to break are the ones whose holes go all the way through, allowing rust/corrosion to get into the backside.

You need some of this: http://www.kanolabs.com/google/ It works when nothing else will.
