OK took the Seca to a shop and they said the control shaft felt was causing vacuum leak around shaft causing the wild high idle & sluggish response...

They wanted 7-8 hrs labor to rebuild the felt carb control rod seals.

My question is; what do i do to rebuild myself? I can rebuild carbs for my bugs and such, and rebuild bugs, should I be able to complete this myself with help from you guys?
I'm stuck with my own free labor or have limited funds if someone on here rebuilds those, (thought I saw a post somewhere).
    Thanks
    Ken

    links appreciated

They're not felt, but they are a special shape. Get your new ones from chacal, he carries the correct ones. (A lot of aftermarket parts, although possibly cheaper, are wrong.)

Replacing them requires breaking the rack and removing the butterflies. Those screws are often "staked" in place, and it requires some careful surgery to remove them without damage. However, it is something you CAN do yourself, with care. (A Dremel doesn't hurt either.)

Everything you need in the way of info is here; and chacal carries the parts. Don't pay somebody whose bike it ISN'T to do uncaring work on your precious carbs. (OK, maybe Rick because he does care.)

FORUM SEARCH is your new best buddy.

Don't take your Seca to a shop-- they don't understand. (I have an '82 650R too.) We are "keepers of the flame." They are infidels, not to be trusted.

Buy me an airline ticket and I'll come help you. (I was born at Luke. Is it still active?)

Oh yeah Luke is still active. Training 24-7. Montham is what they closed down.

Thanks for the info, I'll definately do it myself now.

I don't mean to hijack any posts, but I am in the process of rebuilding the carbs. Is there a way to test the rack for any leaks before putting the assembly on the bike?

I wonder if you could fix a vacuum to the engine facing side of the Carb and use some sort of smoke to see about leaks (or using a tissue on the stick). Really hard to pinpoint though from what I've done.
