    this is pretty cool... right??

just kidding... last year i poured high temp rtv all over these guys and it seemed to work for the summer. not anymore though. i decided to super glue these babys back together. i think i was reading a post by rick about super glue, sanding, super glue, sanding, and then super gluing again. well... it seems to be working! im using MXBON 105 distilled CA. im pretty sure its the best super glue ever made! now i need to cover them with an epoxy inside and out so gas wont touch the super glue. is there any suggested epoxy that will stay put on the inside of the manifold?

has anyone ever tried X-Tape from MXBON for this project? supposedly its the "super glue" of tapes...

Super glue and RTV is good for sealing small cracks. I would not consider that a small crack. Save your time and money , get a new set or used with smaller holes. Epoxy does not adhere well to rubber and it would come off and make its way into the engine easily. Not a good thing.
I have used similar tape to the X-Tape. It is basicly silicone tape that when stretched will bond to itself. That would work but you would have to wrap the boot with the carbs and clamps in place to get a good seal. It would get you riding for a few months .

Agreed. Patching CRACKS is one thing; that manifold is toast. Replace.

i dont have 240 dollars to throw around for new ones! why are these manifolds so rare and high priced? do you think i could dremel new ones out of a block of rubber? plumbing couplings?? do any of the other size manifolds fit the 650? there HAS to be some sort of alternate way to go about this! ughhh...

Are all 4 cracked all the way through? CRACKS are quite common; often they don't go all the way through.

You may not need all 4.

Well, can't really dremel new ones out of rubber. They are actually rubber molded around steel inners. You can shop around ebay and find them, or get them from Chacal. But...I just invested in a whole new set from Chacal. Considering the factory ones lasted some 30 years, it was a small investment. I only needed 1, but wanted them all to be new, and still have the other 3 that came off. I am not sure if they will work on your bike though, mine is a 750 YICS motor, and I think they are angled slightly different.

not all of them are as bad as this one is... but theyre on their way. im pretty sure each one has at least one crack all the way through though. i guess i could probably buy one at a time over the course of a year or so... finding a set for under $100 would be soooo magical... both my car and bike are out of commission right now so i have to walk eeeeeeeeverywhere.

i have a set from an 81 xj750 seca that are in perfect condition... they fit... but theyre upside down. they dont angle as much as the xj650 manifolds. think i could use two from the 750 set and only have to buy two new ones? im going to go check to see if that lines up!

They are upside down because they are on the wrong side of the engine. If you have a full set go ahead and replace all of them, then the vac ports will point up. I don't see any problem running them the way you have then now.

New ones are less than 20 dollars each here in my country aftermarket, I', pretty sure that 4 new ones in the States could not be more than 50 bucks each, if you think that originals last about 25 years, It's a pretty goog investment plus you don't have to worry designing new ones out of anything else...

Rod, they are 50 bucks each here. WHERE do you find them for 20 each?! Can they be shipped? I'd buy some in a heartbeat if I could get a whole set for $100 shipped!
