I'm in the middle of cleaning and reassembling a carb rack that came along with a bike I got back during the summer.

The bike is an 85 XJ700 airhead.

Carbs were dis-assembled, PO kept pretty good track of where the parts were put (except one jet). Everything was stored in WD40. Now, here's the problems:

    1. he dis-assembled the carbs in 2004, and all the wd40, turned to thick goopy sticky messes that I had to clean up. Everything is nice and clean now, though............

    2. there is a packet of new bowl gaskets, as well as all brand new jets, needle jets, and seats, except.................

    3. the new jets are all different sizes from what was supposedly removed from the carbs, so.....

Can someone please tell me what the correct sizes should be?

Now I have a bag of brand-spankin' new jets, and if they are the right size that would be nice. If they are the incorrect size, then I'll sell these to buy the correct sizes. I'm intentionally not saying what sizes all the jets I have are, as I don't want to 'pollute' the answers.

An after-thought......the new jets are aftermarket, and thinking about it--he spent a crazy amount for jets, needle jets, and bowl gaskets.

I do still have to go through the carb bodies and make sure they are spotless, then do throttle and fuel rail seals, but right now I'm just trying to reassemble lightly to make sure everything is back where it belongs so I can do a legitimate teardown. ( I did already clean the jets, diaphragms, needles, bores, screws, etc.....so I don't have to worry about those parts being clogged anymore.

Funny, for everything that has already been done, the mixture screws are still capped, and I don't see any indication that the enrichers were pulled. So, I have a lot of work to do anyway.

Once I know what I need, I'll probably have some stuff available, we'll see.

To end, thanks in advance for any jet info..................

So,the mains are correct as I suspected....107. the pilot fuel jet numbers are the screwy ones......I'll have to go out and look again at what they are. Then, the numbers for the replacement ones are crazy. I'll get them, too, and maybe we can figure out what they are actually for...........

I'll post again after I eat then go check................

Ok, here's what is in, and what was ordered:

    Already in:

    main jet - 107
pilot fuel-365 (YES, it has a TINY hole)

brand new ones in the package:

    main jet - 118
    pilot - 41
    brand - K&L
    Cost in 2004 - 155.40 + 6.95 shipping

Bowl gaskets were from Auckland,NZ but price was not in the pouch.

    So,

    1. what do you think the old jets were from?
    2. what do you think the new jets would be for? Different carbs by error, or would they be a "pod setting"?
    3. Is K&L decent quality? He sure paid enough.................

From the sounds of it. You have the correct jets in the carbs now. That 365 should have a decimal point in it.

As for the K&L kits. They are a decent quality kit. I have heard of some complaints about the quality of the brass parts.

    Part# 18-5109 YAMAHA FJ1100 FJ1200 XJ700 CARB KIT for L LC N NC S SC T TC models
    Part# 18-5111 YAMAHA XJ650 XJ700 XJ750 K&L CARB KIT

You can go to Sirius Consolidated Inc. and enter the part# to figure out exactly what the kits go to.

He is jetting 33mm Hitachi carbs for a 700.

You are running 28mm Mikuni carbs on a modified 550.

There is no correlation between the two.

Dave, K&L is a generally well respected aftermarket manufacturer, that's why they weren't cheap. I suspect what the PO ordered was indeed an intended (misguided?) mod, possibly for pods and/or a pipe. Sure the heck isn't anywhere near stock; hard to decipher what he was thinking.
