I've have had an XJ750 maxim (1982 US import) in my garage for a number of years and the carbs have been dismantled but complete due to a fuel leak years ago. BIG mistake - the rubber diaphragms have dried and cracked and all the pistons / needles are not marked to indicate what pot they originated from.
Can you get spares?? or is the cost going to outweigh the value of the bike?? What are my options?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Best regards

Okeye jock , cant suggest anything much , try the wreckers for the diaphrams or a parts place in your area [even down south] , as for placement on the other stuff there is posts in these forums and some have pictures to show what goes where , good luck...

Those slide valves should be able to interchange!?
If you need more slide valves then I'd suggest looking for a set of good used carbs on e-bay or somewhere for parts. one can usually find a decent set for $100-150.00 USD
The diaphram slide valves will be even more for all 4.

The expense of new diaphragms isn't too steep. I'd save up and purchase new ones unless it proves to great a cost in the UK. Second choice would be a wreckers. The parts should interchange without any problems.

You'll have no problem finding suitable replacements from a Breaker. These carbies were standard on a good deal of Yamaha motorbikes sold in UK.

As Robert suggests ... eBay would be a very good source. Many times, you'll see carbies on eBay, that are rusted and filthy lookin, but will serve you well as "Organ donor" ... to keep your on-the-bike set of carbies fixed-up nicely.

    Try this link

    http://www.nrp-carbs.co.uk/yamaha_carbu ... hragms.htm

£32.00 each for fitted, but in their info they state "we offer a service where we refit a new diaphragm to your original slide". Dunno if that will be any cheaper?

Thanks for the spot-light there Rick but Hvnbnd recommended FleaBay. I would use them only if a local wrecker couldn't source the needed parts. I'm a big proponent of using the locals, supports the local economy and keeps the yards in business so that they will still be there when you need them.

I dont know about others but those new slide valves at $32.00 ea. is a bit pricey as if I buy a used set of carbs and then find I need any other parts I will have my own donor set of parts.
