Carb Pilot screw anti-tamper plugs not completely removed?

    I'm in the process of rebuilding my carbs and it appears as thou one of the service shops that previously worked on my bike drilled the anti-tamper plugs with about a .125" drill bit but didn't remove the whole brass plug. Any ideas on how to get it out the rest of the plug left behind so I can remove the screw? I was thinking about using a larger screw with the tip filed down?

    The screw is the way to go for removing those little caps.

    So they drilled through it, leaving a "ring" in the opening? Mabey gently try to pry it out?

    Self tapping screw or dry wall screw depending on the size of the hole. Did they drill it large enough to put a small screwdriver through to adjust the pilot mixture screw?

    As I mentioned earlier, they drilled it with a .125" bit and left the outer brass ring remaining. I thought about sticking a small flat blade screwdriver in there but don't want to bugger up the threads. I want to remove the screws, springs, washers & o-rings to give it a proper cleaning but can't do so without removing the remnants of the anti-tamper plugs. Do the plugs come out fairly easily or do they take a bit of force?

    Wizard: Ya somebody adjusted them in the past, I think that explains why it's dead when I crack the throttle from a dead stop. I'm going to colortune after I give it a thorough cleaning & sync.

    I bought a carb body on e-bay that had what I think was an original anti-tamper plug. I drilled a #43 hole and tapped it with a 4-40 thread (happened to have a drill/tap pair with this odd drill bit size) then screwed in a 1" long 4-40 screw, long enough to grab the exposed part of the screw with a vise grips. Then I inverted the carb body (had already removed the carb hat, vacuum piston, float, etc) and tapped on the vise grips with a small mallet until the plug came out.

    I don't think it's a .125" hole because that's 1/8 inch and you can get a drywall screw jammed in that and pull the plug (I put 1/8 inch holes in them all the time). You must have a bigger hole.

    The hole isn't threaded where the plug is. You can drill it with progressively larger drills. One one breaks the edge of the plug you can dig the remaining crescent out. Be careful not to go deep enough to damage the pilot screw or threads.
