    I know these are Mikuni flat slides.

    I've been trying to contact the owner or builder to see how these worked on the bike and get any other pertinent information. Nothing.
    My guess is they are BST29SS carbs off a 1995 GSF250 Bandit which put out 45 HP.
    After looking into things a little more, Mikunis only made the BST style carbs as small as 29mm. Which could work on the 550 with the correct jetting and probably more. One bike that ran these unicorn carbs was the Suzuki Bandit 250. As for spacing width and lay length, I don't know other than flatslides tend to be shorter length because of the, you guessed it, flat slides they incorporate. So there would be a shortage found between the airbox and the manifolds someplace.
    I'll continue my search for an alternative carb rack set up for the 550.

    could be the flat side carbs mentioned in the clymer repair manual where it tells you how to pod the bike
