Does anyone have or can supply or can point me toward a list of items that one would always replace, commonly replace, and sometimes replace when doing a carb clean/rebuild. I want to accomplish this last task and would like to have on hand the things I would definately need and maybe even probably need in hopes that I would not have to stop mid way through and wait for parts.

    Thanks,

Most carb kist have all the parts commonly used in a rebuild , gaskets, jets, float needle, idle needle. If your carbs are just dirty and run OK, you can just clean them and replace the bowl gasket. If they are really bad then a complete dissambly and cleaning is necessary. That's when you replace the jets, neeldes and other internal parts. Check with Chacal, he has all the kits you'll need, good prices and fast service.

Remember to save all your old parts, you may need them if the future. I can 't count the number of times I lost a small washer or O ring and was saved by my "bag of old parts".

The basics vary by model of carbs, but include at least the following items:

    - Idle mixture screw o-rings and washers.
    - Carb float bowl gaskets.
    - Float needle valve assembly (seats and needles).
    - Cleaning wires and tools.

The following items are also considered "basics" to me, but now you'll have to break the carbs apart out of the rack to reach them:

    - Throttle shaft seals
    - Fuel supply tube O-rings.

Then, there are all the special tools, fasteners, chemicals, equipment/tools that you'll need.

Those will cost you more than the rebuild parts!

But tools last forever.........AND, since very, Very, VERY few people take the time to do a proper "rebuild" their first time, you'll most probably be doing a 2nd and 3rd "cleaning" a few weeks later anyway, so your tools will start paying for themselves rather quickly....... :D

    Chacal,

Do you keep those basics as part of a kit or are they all ordered seperate?

Separate, although the float valve needle/seats and bowl gaskets can be ordered, for some models, in a variety of "standard" or "deluxe" kits.....

Worth doing right. Glad to see you are approaching it that way. I did mine 3 times - the third time the right way. Only way to go...
