    Hey guys,

Seeing it's winter now, I've naturally got my carbs off and am going through them again. The bike runs good, but I'm pretty sure that it's running to lean under load, and I'm likely trying in vain to compensate by turning the pilot mixture screws out too far.

I notice Chacal sells shim washers for Mikuni's, but would those same shims work for Hitachis as well? are there any alternatives from say a hardware store, and what are the reccomended incremets? 1mm, 0.5mm, etc??? I've had the needles out of the pistons before, so I'm pretty sure i know where they go... Thanks again guys for all the help.

    Marcel

the washers will make the mid range richer so you won't hurt anything trying it. the trick would be finding some just the right size ( id and od )
to fit in there, thickness would be experimental.
the needles from 750 carbs has a thinner taper but might be too much of a change

I bought some washers at a home depot awhile back for the same reason. I don't recall the size. I bought two or three packs and measured each one to find four that were the same.

Two years in and no problems.

I was told that electronic suppliers (used to be Radio Shack) sells nylon washers that are used on electronics boards and the sizes are pretty consistant, well they used to be.
Going back a few years now come to think of it. If you have the needles out, take one with you in an old pharmacy bottle so that you don't lose or damage the needle.

Thanks for the input. I found some #6 that might do the trick. If anything i can downsize the mains if these prove too rich. Already running +2 sizes on the mains and +1 size on the pilots. Now come on spring! Too soon???

Sometimes raising that Needle will not alleviate a Lean Condition because you are "Maxed-out" on the amount of FUEL that the Main FUEL Jet can supply due to the AMOUNT of Main AIR being METERED through the Emulsion Tubes (Main Nozzles).

The Center Tubes must be immaculately clean for the Carb to efficiently supply Main FUEL in a sufficient QUANTITY == and == Atomized properly for making POWER.

Shimming the Needle UP, ... Only opens the Tube earlier.
The AMOUNT won't change too dramatically.

Upping the Main FUEL Jet ... will Increase the SUPPLY of FUEL
But, the FUEL needs to be SIPHONED out of the TUBE.

INCREASING the Size of the AIR Metering Holes by the slightest bit will allow more AIR through to SIPHON and ATOMIZE a greater Quantity of FUEL.
(Having a Spare set of Tubes, ... necessary. Alterations cant be reversed.)

Increasing the Size of the Main AIR Jet, ... may (in itself) help to deliver more FUEL up into the Intake Stream.
