Is there a difference between an 81 xj 750 Seca carb setup and an 82 xj 750 Maxim carb setup? Wondering if i can swap one for the other. Thanks in advance guys.

Nope. Swap away. I got an engine from an 82 Seca and installed my 83 Maxim carbs after rebuilding and it runs like a raped ape! No problems with the carbs. They both use the Hitachi HSC 32mm with 120 main jets and 40 pilot jets.

Can you go lower? Put an '80 set of carbs in an '82?

The reason I ask is the carb bank I was watching in E-Bay went from $60 Buy-It-Now at auction to $150 Buy-It-Now in the guy's E-Bay "Store".

Thus I'm not going to buy from that guy. ;-)

Anyway I see a lot of '80 and '81 carbs now and then and I'm wondering if those will fit.

Yes. Main thing to look for is if it has been rejetted for a 4-1 header. You would then have to rejet back to original. If you are considering this then a set from a 650 will fit with a jet change also. The 650's had 40 pilots with 110 and 112 mains.

    Since this would be:

    1) For rebuild.

    and

    2) For a 650.

I don't see either of those things being a problem.

    :D
