I have an 85 maxim x 700. last night I pulled carb 2's float needle because that carb was leaking, its still leaking i thought i had the float height set because of the previous owners setting that, would i have to reset that when i change the float needle or would it be the same. (I used the Mikuni BSR33 carb kit as that was the closest thing to factory i could find). I did check all the other float needles and they all looked fine and i sprayed carb cleaner in the needle seat. is there anything else i could do or didnt do that i needed to. or should i have bought the 4 carb kits from ebay, this is my first bike and first time messing with these kinds of carbs.

Welcome aboard. Float needles can be different lengths and maybe the seats can be different. So, if you change the needles or needles and seats, the floats may need adjusting. Cheap ebay sets may not work well at all. Your best bet is to contact (Len) Chacal in a conversation or click on the XJ4Ever logo at page top right and see what he has. His parts will absolutely work.
