    hey people.

When you tune the pilots on your carbs, do you let the bike warm up all the way to operating temp before playing with the screws? or just to where the idle evens out?

Always warm the bike to operating temp. A cold engine will not burn the fuel properly and that's why they require choke to keep running at idle. You want the choke completely off to set the pilot mixture. The choke actually bypasses the mixture screw and richens the mixture. I also highly recommend the use of a fan to keep the engine at operating temp. No air flows over the cooling fins at idle and the engine can run hot. So a fan keeps the engine cool as if it were moving.

Best thing to do is to go for a ride to bring the bike up to normal temp.

Best thing to do is not touch the carbs if you are going to be "playing with the screws". You have read the various posts here and know what you are doing? Note well where the screws are set now incase. See also:

    well, here's the story:

I got these carbs from a local shop, after I found out mine were beyond repair. They installed them and synced them, and it was ok for a while. Then I noticed that my #4 pilot jet was clogged, so I fixed that. THEN... just out of curiosity, I decided to take a look at the diaphragms. 3 out of 4 had tiny holes in them and gas was present above the diaphragms. So.. I replaced the torn ones with the ones out of my old set.

Now I do seem to have a lot more power at the top end, but with WOT, when warm, the bike seems to sputter a bit for a second, then takes off. The sputter is very light, not like hesitation, but almost like the mixture is set too rich.

I just want to make it ridable for now, but I'll be taking it back to the shop for a re-sync (I only have 1 vacuum gauge, and no colortune, YICS tool or CO sensor). :-(
