Hi everyone quick question, on my 1985 xj700 when i let it sit for more than a couple days the fuel from the petcock down drains into the engine. I have tested the petcock it doesnt leak. I have a clear filter between the petcock and carbs, overnight it drains a little, if i let it sit a week the filter is empty and the bike is hard to start. Want to get fixed to avoid getting fuel in the oil, smelled the oil has a real minor gas smell to it. I have set the float hieghts recently. I was going to order new float valves and seats for all four carbs just would like a second opinion before i order the parts and see if someone with more experience has seen something that im missing. Thank you much

If you let it sit a week the fuel is evaporating. Set the petcock to prime in order to fill the float bowls.

If gas is indeed leaking out of the carbs, you'll smell in the crankcase. Remove the oil cap and take a whiff.

Okay next time it does this i will turn it to prime and then try and start it. Seemed like it was flooded to me smelled very rich once it did start but i could be wrong . I will take another smell of the oil as well.

If it is draining overnight then you have some leaking needle valves or possibly a leak at the fuel "T" on the carb rack. If you don't see any leaks I would suspect the needles.
