    So, this FJ600 I got...

The previous owner said the carbs were cleaned, but he couldn't get it to run.

So, once I bypassed the electrical issue, I started the thing, and it would idle on full choke, and die with any twitch of the throttle.

I popped the carbs to see what that actually meant. They clearly have been messed with, given the stripped and mismatched screws. The bowls were spotless. The first emulsion tube I pulled... Clogged all to hell.

Apparently, people don't realize there is this pesky internal stuff to carbs.

Oh man that's rough. You know what, though? That's going to be a helluva nice bike when you actually get it sorted.

It's funny, but people actually don't know about internals and such. You watch some yokel on YouTube just take the bowls off and spray a crap-ton of carb cleaner, and you think "gee, that looks easy!"

    Never trust the PO.

I purchased my XJ700 for $150 becuase the PO could not figure out why it woudld not run right. He also "cleaned the carbs" with spray bombs and straws. I immediately took them apart, completely, soaked them, put them in my ultrasonic cleaner, and reassembled with all new seals, screws, jets and other miscellaneous items. I fired my bike up for the first time today in a few months and it started so easy. Clean, CLean, Clean. Make sure you replace those throttle shaft seals, they wil drive you nuts so do it now and be done with it. It will take some money to get it right but once you do and maintain them they will last a long time.
