I'm looking for a couple of replacement drain screws for this bike. Also would like advice on removing a drain screw with chewed up slot.
    Thanks

Two best ways to remove drain screws are 1. cut a new slot with a dremel tool or 2. drill out with an ezout.

    Hi.

I bought 4 stainess steel drain plugs for my Hitachi carbs they are a bit long but do the job well. I think they cost $10.00 but I was quoted $40.00 for Yamaha plugs from a dealer.

I need 4 carburetor bowl drain screws for an XJ650 Maxim if anyone knows where I can get them. The head of one was so chewed up I had to drill it and remove with an easy out. Not an easy task but it worked.

Len (Chacal) from XJ4ever sells the best replacement drain screws on the planet. They were ~$32 including shipping for a set of 4, but are brilliant: stainless steel, with hex heads, and longer than the originals. These will never strip...

O ye of little faith. :)

They're still a great idea, and I have them on my 750. Look on page 4 of Setting The Fuel Levels for an idea of what they look like.

...or your bike will not run properly and you will be unsafe; and for goodness sake, CHECK YOUR VALVES... :)

this guy is still around. I got ahold of him for my hitachi carbs and was satisfied. honest working man who is capable of making the same carb screws with his lathe at a reasonable price. remember, a screw is a screw no matter where you get it from. i do know that mikuni carb bowl screws are difficult for him to make though, as he was not able to help me out with my 550
