I just got 1981 Honda CB900c , does anybody know if a speedometer from another year Honda will interchange to the CB900c. The speedometer is dead and a replacement has been hard to find at a reasonable price. The CB650 and 750 look similar but I don't know if they will work. I can fab a new bracket easily if needed but will the cable hook up and will the CB900 speed drive be accurate with another speedometer. I can't justify spending more on a speedometer than I paid for the bike.

The speedo ratio will be fine, but are you sure that the inner cable hasn't broken? You may be lucky and only need to buy a new cable.

The speedometer is toasted, there are parts loose inside. It will only read up to 40 mph then gets stuck, it makes noise also. The cable and drive are good.

I know that my speedo off of an old 70's Honda will fit just about every CB displacement up through the 1979 year. You might try to score a cheap replacement from say a an 82 (which looks a lot like the older units too). Head on down to the motorcycle recycling place with your lump and see what they have that will fit. You don't have to buy their part but I'm sure they will try to help you find a unit that will swap in.

    Thanks Robert
We don't have any good cycle salvage yards in the area that I know of. We have one but he doesn't like to let you compare parts. He is also real expensive, charging half of retail for used parts. I've seen some older ones on Ebay that look like they might fit, I'll just have to take a chance.
