Cdi box switch

okay so I blew my CDI for my Yamaha xj650 maxim. I accidentally bought a cdi for a midnight maxim 650. Mine has 5 connectors on it and the midnight has 4. Could I still use it? Does anyone know? Any experience? If I can I will. I figure I might have to buy a new one but if I can I will use it. And another note. Would using a XJ 550 maxim cdi box make any difference on my XJ 650?

 

650 midnight is 80 or 81 it would likely be for a non yics motor will not work . your 82 is a yics motor

the bike will start and run on a 550 tci but not run correctly

your tci should have a part number like this
82 and 83 650 maxim

The extra terminal is present on models that use a sidestand (kickstand) position switch as part of the safety interface system........1980-81 XJ650 Maxim models don't have this switch and thus no need to get the info about the sidestand switch to the TCI (and that is what that extra terminal is for).
