No it doesn't contain current prices. You'll have to PM him or send an e-mail to info@xj4ever for current prices.

I'd be willing to help make a current catalog in an excel access or word format

I did that a few years ago; made a PDF out of it. Offered to keep it updated. He told me no.

We live in a constant-changing world. Prices are gonna fluctuate over time; let 'em run their business how they want.

Prices don't make that big of a play when there is such GREAT customer service. This day and age it seems that customer satisfaction is a rarity.

As noted above, Len always provides you with a list of adjacent items and he has always been prompt with replies, deliveries and answers.

I'll say it again - GREAT customer service! :D

I don't mind asking for prices... but I wish there was a way to do a search by make/model/year and only see the stuff that he has available that fits your bike.

I'm new here.. could be just not familiar with how to search his catalogue.

you don't search his catalog. you tell him what you are looking for and he gives you what you need.

Well I can make the basic website for him if he wants. The cart part is easy. That actually comes now with any website you register just have to check your hosting company.

And the prices he can put on there and change as he likes once the shopping cart is set up.

I need some of the Yamaha Specialized tools. I need the Rotor Holding Tool, the Rotor puller adapter and rotor puller tool. Can you get those for me, or do you know a good place to get them?

I think he's happy with it the way it is. I don't have a problem with it the way it is, either.

The cart wouldn't be the problem, it would be the fitment data. He'd have to pipe into a previous stream like ARI's Partstream plus have a custom path for all the OEM he's made.

While there's high tech ways to do this, it would also require a large amount of cash to upgrade everything. Basic rule of the internet; if it works for your market, don't poke it with a stick. Sure he's a bit old school, but these are 30 year old bikes. Not everyone wants to be like http://www.carterpowersports.com/index.htm (I picked them just because that's the one I was working on atm).

Len is absolutely within his rights to run his business as he sees fit.

However, Len's customers are also within their rights to express opinions on the experience. I kinda think feedback is important to any business.

Personally, I think Len is a great guy, extremely knowledgeable, and with great understanding of customer service. I also think the way he has this set up is a major oddity in this day and age.

Kilted, I don't see why he would need a parts service like that. It's a single product family, a couple of dozen different models, not everything for every bike Yamaha ever made. Really, a fairly simple product database oughta do it. Even if he doesn't want to publish prices and do quotes, something that would let you run down a list and put items in the cart, and then send the cart contents to him, would be a huge improvement over poring through pages of outdated info. I'm not even gonna go into how awesome it would be to have pictures of parts.

Of course, I say this as someone who works in warehouse management software. Databases are a huge part of what I do. To someone with a hammer everything looks like a nail.

That place is totally not like Len's shop. They have dozens of product lines from multiple manufacturers. It tries to attract attention to latest and greatest, it's a used car salesman, not a parts counter. No comparison whatsoever. Randy's site is a better example: http://www.rpmracingca.com/

Let me first say, we all here at xjbikes.com think very highly of Chacal, his parts, his catalog, his professional advice, & his excellent service & his dedication to keeping our 30+ yr old bikes running... Without him, we would be chasing & scrambling for parts all over the internet....

I think some posts here in this thread was just some food for thought for Chacal in the future....if he continues the way he currently is doing business, that is also fine by me & others....

Chacal, we tip our hats to you in more ways than one....

Thanks for being there for us XJ riders....

I made my first purchase from Chacal and absolutely not only don't I have any complaints but this response time was on par or better than other places I have ordered.

So I will continue to bug him and then buy from him whenever I need parts. Just hope he doesn't get tired or noobs like me.

I know I have to be fully alert and have paper and pen ready when I'm shopping xj4ever. I can live with that. Len's turn around time with inquiries and shipping have been phenomenal in my experience. The only way it could be better is if he could read my mind and I gave him my paypal password.

I believe Len can read minds. I had painted the handlebar controls on my 700 and was wondering how to re-do the lettering. Later I was going through some paperwork from xj4ever and there, stapled to one of the receipts, was a strip of stickers for the controls. Scary.
