    I just have to ask.....

Why go to a chain drive?

Shaft drive doesn't require as much maintenance.

The chain drive conversion is not an option, unless you are ready to do alot of machining alot of parts to convert the shaft output to a sprocket. So I guess anything is possible if your willing to spend the time and money. It would be nice to be able to extend the swing arm back some and mess with sprocket sizes for higher gear ratios.

thanks for the info- the plan is to extend the swing arm about 4-5 inches. I would also like to go with a rear disc brake set up. I'm going for the street fighter look, I've got an inverted front end from a newer kawi and right now i'm working on the rear fender, dropping a 97 R1 tail light in it and doing some 3-d biomech around it.

Mind if i cut in here with a drive chain question.I'm been looking at replacing the master link on my chain as it's looking a bit rough from being hammered on and off a few times. Now i'd rather look at just replacing the whole chain. My question is.chain size is 530 is this and the number of links all i need to order a new chain.

Rather than dreaming-up some way to convert a Shaft Drive XJ to Chain Drive.
(It aint gonna happen unless you own a bank and a machine shop; too)

Why don't you just look around for and FJ Engine.
    The FJ's are Chain Drive.

The FJ's are also perfect for modifying into Street Fighters!
