thats where i got it from i tested the alt/rotor and everything its all testing good now when i do the feeler gauge test it dosnt slap the alt cover however it just pulls it up against the cover in the forum i got this testing information it say that if it is weak then ground the green wire from the reg/ret and it should get stronger well my problem is that it only gains magnectism when i have the green wire jumped to ground if i dont jump it i get no magnectism at all now i check and the only wires i have coming from the alt area are the three white ones and the red and green what should i try now ?

I'm not sure I'll be able to tell you much more than what you already know. I am obviously more familiar with the 650 but here goes.

You should have 7 wires coming from your reg/rect. 3 white to the alternator as well as a Brown wire and a dark green wire. The 5 wires are split into 2 connectors - the 3 white wires are one connector and the brown and green wires are another connector - both to the alternator.

That leaves you with a Red and a Black wire coming from the reg/rect. The red comes from the fuse box and also feeds the ignition switch. THe black feeds a pile of circuits but is ultimately a frame ground.

Sounds like you should confirm you have the frame ground - start there. You were saying the colours didn't line up - which ones out of the 7 don't line up or are missing etc.?

ok i went through the wireing and every thingchecked out ok i cleaned the slip rings and brushs ok istarted it and still no charge battery voltage is 12.37 vdc running 12.67 vdc now i jumped the green wire from the reg/rec to a ground ok i had the leads of the volt ohm meter black to battery neg and red to battery pos.... with it running and the green wire jumped it read 16.25 volts DC (this tested is a snap-on 349 dollar tester not cheap) so while its running i see this 16.25 VDC so i unhook the jumper wire from the green rec/reg wire voltage drops to 13.88,then to 13.44 and finally back to battery voltage. i may be wrong but could this mean that the green wire is loose dirt or bad connection to the neg brush> or just a bad ground on the bike?
