I see many people posint about what all you should do internally with your engine before you even rejet/ thoroughly clean your carbs. Im just confused on what all i should do first? What checks?

I know of checking the valve clearances and doing a compression test but what should I do first?

Thats pretty much it. A full tune up as well. You want the motor to be running in its best condition before you start making carb changes or you may end up chasing your tail.

Unless you have poor compression, or your transmission won't shift, the only thing your engine needs is oil changes, valve clearance check, spark plugs, and maybe a clutch if it's showing any signes of slipping. Everything else will take care of itself.

Do the valve clearances first, then check compression. There is a significant overlap in the cam profile, so valves that aren't closing in time can throw off compression numbers.
