Checking oil level, when bike is warmed up or cold???

    This is a stupid question but are you supposed get an accurate oil reading after the bike is warmed up? I my bike sits overnight the oil level reads low, however if you ride it for 5 minutes then the oil level reads high. I searched this and found no answers. Haynes manual also doesn't say.
    Insight is greatly appreciated.

    It should read 3/4 of the way up the glass when cold and on the centerstand.

    Good question. I'm going to suggest you should check it cold since the warm oil might give you a little bit of error owing to expansion and the capillary action of the warm oil.
