So, i got my valves up to spec. In preparation, i removed the horn, some of the harness items in the frame under the fuel tank and pulled the choke cable bracket (attached to choke cable) off of the carb hat.

Got my valves all back into spec and buttoned it all back together.

Now what I find is that I can enable the enrichment circuit (choke), but when i go to turn it off, the cable bends outward at the pivoting switch on the handle and doesnt close the enrichment circuit. I have to hold the cable while moving the choke switch to the right and this barely closes the enrichment circuit. I usually have to reach down to move the lever on the carbs by hand.

I pulled the cable off and soaked the inside with some penetrating oil and verified it slid relatively fine. I put back on the bike and same result.

there looks to be a slight bend/dent in the sheath, and it is really dirty, almost like it had been there for quite some time. I am not sure if this contributes to my issue or is coincidence since it worked fine before.

This choke/cable worked great before starting the valve job.

Am i just due for a new cable?

    TIA

More than likely you are due for a new cable. It could be the clamp that holds the cable (if it is like the 750) is pinching the cable so that it does not slide well.

yeah, give a new cable a shot, its not going to break the bank if thats not the issue, and in the end you still have a new cable that is less likely to cause you issues in the future
