I have completely disassembeled my mikuni carbs for cleaning from my 1985 fj600 except for the choke plungers. the way they are set up on this set of carbs requires me to remove each seprate carb from the rack. should i go through the trouble of disassembeling them or is really needed?

I just dont want to risk breaking something if i dont need to do this part.

    Any suggestions are appreciated!

Are you sure you can't just disassemble the linkage off of them and remove them that way?

The plungers have a rubber seal imbedded in their "business end." Their seat needs to be clean and free of debris or deposits. If they DON'T seal properly, you'll experience all sorts of mysterious "richness" problems, or intermittent stumbling/bogging.

On the other hand, if they're OK then taking them apart isn't 100% necessary.

the plungers are mounted horizontally, so you can only get the last one in the line out, the others get blocked by the next one in line.

I pulled the last one and the rubber bushing "looks" OK, but the bike is 27 years old so I'm a little paranoid.
