    Day 1:

7 days later she runs like a champ but it was a long road trying to repair a zillion holes in the gas tank
    [IMG]

Started the build last Friday streched the shaft 3 1/4
    [IMG]

This is the spacing so we could start to make the hard tail [IMG]

Day two of chopping and it's starting to look like a sweet chopper
    [IMG]

    Day three of chopping:

Day 4= boring but the hardtail is complete with the swing arm ready to be cut out

    Day 5 loooookking soo sweet
    [IMG] [IMG]

Day6-8 trying to find a new tank the Harley one is beyond repairable..

    But day 9!!!!

If anyone is looking for stock takeoff parts call the rice paddy in columbus Ohio
I was able to trade them my parts for other stuff I needed

Problem, a balanced shaft doesn't mean that the weight is balanced just in the center of the shaft. It means that the shaft is evenly balanced throughout the shaft. Cutting a shaft in two and welding a joint in the middle puts weight in the center of the shaft. Now imagine what happens to that weight when centrifugal force is applied, that shaft spins at high RPM's.
Not saying that it will brake or crack (depending on the quality of the welds), but will most likely damage u-joint, bearings and possibly whollow out a housing on either or both ends from slight bending of the shaft and the added vibration.
That is why drive shafts of any kind are best left to a machine shop. Not trying to rain on your parade, just don't want anyone or their bike to get hurt.

This was done at a machine Shop...
That makes driveshafts all day long.

    Wow.......
I would think that if a machine shop had done it in this way, that they would have cut the shaft closer to the ends and used a longer pipe to even out the weight.
Oh well,I hope everything works out well. I like what you've done to the frame. 8)

Looking over the shaft pic a second time, its hard to tell exactly where the bearings ride on the shaft. That can make a lot of difference so it could be just fine. I should have looked at the pic and thought about it a little longer.

Not sure why that posted a second time.. I appreciate your concern and input (honestly)
But I have been working on this shaft for close to 3 months I've had it to every machine/driveshaft shop I could find they all said they could do it and had the same plans as the one I chose... cut in the middle, Drilled out, plugged and then sleeved,

If it fails I have 3 more stock length shafts to cut on until it's right

    Really like the work!
O.C. Choppers could take a page out of your book.
With those guys it's "Let's get a frame from these guys, and a tank from those guys and fenders from this shop and a motor from this supplier".
Obviously, the shaft had to be done at a machine shop, but the rest is all you man and the creds will be all yours!
Looking forward to the email notifications on this build.
Good luck and keep 'em coming!

    Maxim-x thanks for the compliments
I've gotten a lot inspiration from the other build threads on this forum. It's always nice seeing originality and some of the crazy things people take on while making there "dream bike"

Lookin' good! Did you happen to trade in the original gas tank at the Paddy? I was just down there a couple weeks ago looking for one since I put a big f'n dent in the top of mine...

I still have the tank it is full of jb weld and now coated with Caswellplating tank sealer all you would need to do is sand off the remainder of the jb weld and it's all good. After 1k miles the tank never leaked a drop
