Thanks!! Saw it on craigslist for $400, closed the deal at $200 after I saw that it needed new tracts and a few other things. I think I got a really good deal. Definitely hoping for some snow this winter!

i have one, it's not mine but it's been in my garage since the 80's.
it was one of those " you take it apart and i'll get a new shaft for it", that was 30 years ago.
anyway, i think i remember something about a chrome cylinder so yes spray some kind of oil in the sparkplug hole. that squeak sounds like reed valves? if it's sat a long time you should try to get some oil in the lower end too, thru the carb intake. kerosine would be good.
i don't even remember what the carb looks like but i'll bet it's gunked up

There's a few on ebay right now, I think one is in MI.

Any other recommendations besides kerosene? Not sure how I would spray it in there either.. hmmm.

I got an upgrade for the sno runner today - a military grade free flow exhaust that should add a few horsepower to it. I was lucky to find one. With that, a thinner headgasket, and a 15 tooth clutch, the upgrades should bring it from 6-7hp to 10-11hp. There were 3 versions of the sno runner: standard, high performance(military), and experimental (yellow). I'm trying to upgrade mine from standard to high performance.

Need to get this engine going first though!

I'm pretty sure I figured out what's going on.. the compression release button that is above the spark plug is clogged up causing excessive compression when trying to start so it's making it hard to turn over. I busted out the stethoscope and could hear a little bit of air trying to escape it.

Tested for spark tonight and that is good too!
