I have 1981 XJ 750 Seca. It seems like lately it has been making a clacking or rattling noise from 3000 to 4500 rpm's in most gears. Once I get above 4500 rpm's, she purrs. Should I be worried?

    Thanks

depending on the noise, it sort of sounds like the issue i had.

the beauty shields on my exhaust would rattle around 4000. i bent them a bit to stop it.

i would rev the engine and hold the guard to see if that stops the noise.

My bet is that you have an exhaust collar nut that is loose.
