Hi all quick question... i have my carbs apart and am cleaning them except i ran into a problem. I ordered some carb cleaner from a auto store here in Calgary and they gave me Brakleen . Me being absent minded didn't look at the bottle and just took it.

    Will this still clean carbs?

I would avoid any contact with rubber parts... Specifically the shaft seals which you cant see, the diaphram, the float needle, the enrichment valve and it's little hat.

Even with carb cleaner you want to do the same, just does it a little better I think.

Brakleen is realy good for removing grease and oil. If you want to ask them for "Autoparts Dip". I think it's from the same company that makes brakleen.
It will clean every nook and cranny of your carbs. It comes in gallon cans, the 5 gallon has it's own dipping holder to put parts in.
I used it on my 78 Gs1000 and couldn't believe how clean they got.
I took and old pot and put enough in to submerge the carb.
    WARNING!! Be very careful!!
It will totally destroy any rubber or o-rings in your carbs.
Do not use indoors and don't get any on your skin.
The 1 gallon was $35.00 if memory serves me.

Justice Brothers or Berryman's carb cleaner is all I use.

Except when I use my new ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight!

I got the $100 one ( with the heater)and used distilled vinegar straight.

Turn on the heater and 40 minutes later the carbs come out SQUEAKY CLEAN!
Try to get the carbs as clean as possible before you dunk them.If you don't it makes the vinegar dirty REALLY fast.
Two gallons will clean FILTHY carbs up just fine.
Clean out the starter jets down in the @#^*^%$#$& bowls with a torch tip cleaner and then blast them with carb cleaner.
I blasted every hole I could find on my carbs and nothing came out but clean spray.
Take your time and make them absolutely clean. Any gunk at all and the bikes seem to run like #%*^%%.
Oh yeah LOTS of Q-Tips help too.
Rip the head off the Q-Tip ( poor thing!) and it will clean out the pivot for the float.
    Brake cleaner leaves no residue.
Carb cleaner often ( depends on brand) leaves a dry film lubricant behind.

TECHLINETOM will have carbs that purr like a well-fed kitten when he's done....because he really CLEANED the carbs the correct way.

Question for Tom: did the vinegar solution "stain" the carb bodies at all?
