What do you use to clean the bugs off your face shield?

I worry about scratching the surface.

    Thanks.

I use a windshield polish made for plastics. But windex and a soft cloth works just as well

I take a paper towel, fold it in half the long way and saturate it with Windex. Then I lay it across the shield and leave it there for 5-10 minutes while I find my gloves, sunglasses, etc. Once it's had a chance to soften up everything, it will wipe off with one or two passes; less chance for scratching.

Even though they say it's not for plastics, i've been using Rain-X on my helmet visors AND my windshields for YEARS.
    Three benefits:
    1. Rain visiability
    2. If you wipe them off as soon as you get home, bugs just slide right off with a little windex and paper towel.
    3. Rain-X actually fills in minute scratches and makes the surface smoother.

I've never ruined a visor or windshield yet. I currently have a Slip Streamer Spirit windshield on the XJ and don't go anywhere without Rain-X on it.

Of course, use at your own risk...

I have used Rain-x in the past with no ill effects but the warning put me off. The windshield polish I have has some of the Rain-x properties. Its a cleaner/polisher.

While we are on the subject ...

How do you get rid of small scratches, particularly on one of the mirror-like visors ?

Meguiars Natural Shine will make them a lot less noticeable for a while...

I use Brillianize (a clear plastic polish) to remove minute scratches.

A little off topic, but if you have problems with the shield fogging up, put some shaving cream on the inside.

I have used lemon Pledge furniture polish before, seems to work great also. takes a little but more rubbing to ensure no streaks on the face shield but it gets it clean. also works good to polish the rest of the helmet.

We use Mothers Wax on the recommendation of an Apple Auto Glass shop , they used to stock specialty products but the owner says Mothers works just as well for a quarter of the price - it makes the water run off both the windshield and the visor, fills in scratches and it smells good. He uses it on his stock cars and just re-applies when needed. Anti - fog on the inside that came from the Yamaha dealer.

That's the great thing about an HJC helmet, there website recommends the use of Rain-X products on their visors.

I use the Meguiars clear plastic cleaner & polish.
Took the yellow off the headlights no problem.
    Works on scratches too.

+1 on the Lemon Pledge. It also helps at carcass removal time and has the added advantage of making the inside of your helmet smell lemony fresh!

I've heard it's better to use cloth than paper.

The theory is that paper, which is made from wood, it's harder than the plastic surface, and will scratch it. The more coarse the paper, the worse the scratches. Picture scrubbing some some corregated cardboard around on there... 8O

Not telling you to stop using paper, but just passing along some anecdotal info.

YMMV, but I've since switched to a cloth towel instead of paper towels. :D

Yeah, but doesn't that make it hard to see?!?

Seriously though, just apply it, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then wipe it off?
