I'm cleaning my grandson's yamaha 4 wheeler--probably a 70 cc. However, I can't seem to get the emulsion tube clear. It set up a while and apparently crusted up just above the small holes. I've soaked it, sprayed it, boiled it, and tried a small welding torch tip cleaning probe. With the probe it appears to be moving some. I'm using the smallest probe I have which is much smaller than the tube itself. I was thinking of using a small drill but don't know if the actual hole in the tube is the same diameter all the way through. I can't remember it that was the case with the emulsion tube in my xj700 carbs. Any one have any ideas about how to clear it or if it is the same diameter all the way?

I'd not use anything physical if it can be avoided, especially if a replacemnt is not readily available.. It's a brass part, so you can soak it in Berryman's (or similar) for as long as you want without damaging the part.
Let it sit for a few days, then see if she blows clear with compressed air.

I prefer the NAPA carburetor cleaner in the gallon can.

I use a mouthpiece brush, and other various tools. But I would definitely NOT use a drill bit. The hole is not the same size through the entire length of the tube.

I have it soaking in a gallon can of carburetor cleaner, but my son just said to heck with it and ordered a complete rebuild kit for $24. I still want to see if I can get it cleared.

Victory at last. After soaking 4 days I used a #10 guitar wire to poke around, but still with no success. Then I tried something I saw on the internet--I put the jet in a power drill, stuck the wire in the jet and turned on the drill. While the jet was spinning I kept poking the wire and it finally broke through. But I had already installed the new one and completed the carb clean/rebuild, so now I have a nice back-up jet.

A tube steak in Georgia has always been a hot dog.

Got the carb back on today and it started easily. However, it seems to be hanging up when returning to idle. This is a Yamaha 80 Grizzly, Raptor, etc, and it has a Mikuni carb with a wire control slide. I have polished the slide and the walls of the carb, and verified that it slides well and seems to return the to bottom position easily when off the machine. I've installed all new gaskets and can't find any air leaks. My best guess is that it has something to do with the slide stop screw and the slide itself. The slide stop screw is located at the bottom of the slide channel and the slide has a beveled slot that contacts the stop screw and is used to set the idle much like the idle adjustment screw on the XJ700 I have. I'm thinking that there must be some play in the slide that might be causing it to bind because it will eventually and slowly return to idle. I'm running out of ideas what else to look for. Any ideas?

I love that the only guy in the band without big facial hair is named Frank Beard.
