Clunks going it to first

    I know it kind of normal for an XJ to do this clunk in N to first .But if I adjust all slack from the cable and pull in handle you get a bad rattle more of a fast knock any one know what causes this. its an 85 xj 700n air cooled

    Can you see any metal in the engine oil ?
    If so will need to pull clutch cover and inspect to see whats going on.

    nope oil clean it only happens when you take all the slack out of the cable and then pull it the cluck releases shit in to first find soft no jerking or trying to move forward .When you do it starts making a knocking noise let off the handle put just a little slack in the cable it dosent do it. Just wondering if there is something hitting if you push the clutch to far

    there is supposed to be 3 mm play at clutch lever
