I have not asked a question on here for a LONG time, so here it goes. I have had a clunk sound coming from right below my left foot, middle gear area. It only happens in 1st gear as my clutch is almost fully engaging. So I figured since I had no bikes or mowers in here for repairs and it was my day off at my reg job, I would take a stab at this sound. I put my bike on the lift and on its center stand, and put it in to first gear. I then rotated the rear tire backwards to simulate the same load as taking off from a stand still. It rotated till all the slack in the trannie was taken up, then I applied pressure to the rear tire, it gave a little with a small but audible clunk. Its not the final drive because the u-joint gave a little too. So off comes the clutch cover and clutch for inspection. The clutch has a little over 1000 miles on it. The pressure plates can use a little scotch bright, and the friction plates are still fresh. The clutch basket fingers are free of any groves as I honed them when I did the clutch job. As i rotate the basket with the bike still in gear, the play seems a little excessive, I could be wrong. The clutch drum has a little play in it, both side to side and rotationally. I will post a vid and see what ya think.

The amount of freeplay in your clutch video looks normal to me. The sound you are hearing in first gear might be related to the middle gear assembly, which has a pair of cams and a spring that act as a shock absorber for the drivetrain (similar to how a cush drive works on a chain driven bike). They do clunk. Some bikes do it more than others, and it's not something to worry much about. If it gets appreciably worse you will need to split the cases to pull the middle gear assembly for inspection (personaly I would not do this unless the clunk got very bad, or there was a rideability issue relating to the middle drive such as repeated clunking while accelerating).
