I have a problem with the clutch on my XJ900F (18000 miles) when the engine is hot. There is drag on the clutch making it difficult to get out of 1st into neutral. Sometimes it is impossible and the only way is to switch off the ignition.

Originally I was using Halfords semi-synthetic until I spoke to Doug Deardens (Yam dealer) about the clutch drag. They recommended that I try a standard oil - makes a change recommending the cheapest oil! This I did but it has not made any difference.

I have checked the adjustment of the cable. Everything works well when the engine is cold. Problem only occurs after a long run or a zap down the motorway.

Has anyone else had this problem?

try re-adjusting the cable when it is hot, and see if it is acceptable when cold still?
