Hi everyone I just picked up a 1983 xj750 midnight maxim, with 11000km on it and I was fiddling around with that switch and broke the little plastic piece that holds it into position in the cluch lever. Just wondering if I need it or not,
    Thanks

The clutch switch allows an "override" of the safety interlock allowing the bike to be started in gear as long as the clutch is pulled in (and the sidestand up.) This comes in handy if you stall in traffic.

Without the clutch switch the bike will have to be in neutral to be started.

The clutch switch comes in both OE and "aftermarket" and neither option is expensive at all. http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=30354.html
