I am not sure how to properly adjust the cable for my clutch. When the bike is on the centre stand and running in neutral everything is ok, when i pull the clutch lever in and put it in 1st, even with the clutch fully pulled in the rear wheel still spins. When the clutch is pulled in and i depress the rear brake the bike stalls. I'm a little worried to take it on the road in this condition so i haven't.

I have tried to adjust the cables and i'm just not sure if i'm doing it right. Could someone please post pictures of their clutch cables and a quick how to? i don't know what to do here and i am at my witts end.

theres 2 adjust bolts on the clutch cable holder which is right ontop of the clutch case tighten them up Maybe that will help is there play in the clutch can you pull it in and the lever on the case wont move if so you need to tighten it. Take a flash light and look in the case if you see anything bad dont hesitate to tear it down rather than risk your engine because your clutch plates and disks are cracked or broken.

    Just my two cents

    You may try this thread>>> http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic ... tment.html

    According to Haynes manual:
Start by slackening the lever (handlebar) adjuster fully to give maximum freeplay. Using the adjuster at the lower end of the cable (on engine), set the cable free play to 2-3mm (0.08-0.12in) measured between the lever stock and blade. Subsequent adjustments can now be made at the handlebar end of the cable.

Good advice in those two posts; one quick note: There is enough internal "drag" in the tranny and drivetrain that the rear wheel WILL spin when the bike is on the stand, in gear, and with the clutch pulled in. No, it shouldn't then stall when the rear brake is applied. Also, even a 100% properly adjusted clutch WILL drag a bit when the bike is cold, especially if it has been sitting.

Thanks guys, hopefully i'll be able to take it out for a spin tomorrow night and see if it's just a little stuck from sitting.

point it in a safe direction and crank it once with it in gear and the clutch in
that will free up the clutch plates should they be a little stuck and keep the gear grinding to a minimum
