Clutch rebuild

    Hey guys
    So, my clutch started "slipping", so decided to pull it apart. My question is, I have these..........slight waves on some of the fingers, obviously from the friction plates and primaries. I cleaned all the leftover residue from the 30 somethings, and you can still barely see them or feel them, but they're there. Should I be concerned or just ignore. If the former, can I fix with a file or some rough grit sandpaper. Thanks in advance.

    Are you talking about "polished spots" or true "divots" (on the hub and basket, from contact with the plates?)

    If they're just polished spots and not much of a "dip" then they are OK, if deep enough they will cause the plates to hang up. If you want to clean them up a bit, don't use rough grit sandpaper; use a sharp, fine file or a sharpening stone.

    Be sure to soak all the new friction plates in oil for a few hours; heed the orientation of the tabs on the plain plates; and ensure the dot on the pressure plate is aligned with the dot on the hub upon reassembly.     get some new springs, new plates will slip with old sacked out springs
    a dab of loc-tite is good insurance on the bolts

    Wow, that's a lot better than the manual Fitz. I cleaned the dark spots left by the old friction plates with scotchbrite and they got nice and shiny. I can just see and feel a small wave. However, there are 2 small nicks less than a mm on the inner basket. I'll attempt to smooth them out with a file. Yeah, I'm gonna order all new flange bolts, springs, friction plates, and gasket. Which locktite do you recommend? I think I have a red and a green. Thanks guys.

    red is a no no, can't think of anywhere on a xj to use that stuff.
    green could be either wicking or bearing retainer, wicking is for after the bolt is tight, it wicks down into the threads but how would you get it past the spring and washer.
    bearing retainer holds bearing races in if their a little loose.
    go to the car parts store and get a little tube of blue medium strength, i forget the number. just don't use red
