Hey, does anyone know the importance of the spring surrounding the clutch throwout shaft? Mine is broken & does nothing but hang loose. The bike shifts pretty good though. Should I try to find a new spring? 1983 Maxim xj650. Thanks.

The spring keeps it from ratteling. YOu need some play in the cable to allow the clutch to grag completely so that spring just keeps it all tight.

I've been running my 82 Seca with a broken spring these past two years without issue.
