clymer vs. haynes manual?

    I have a Clymer manual for my '82 xj550. I've seen a lot of references on here about Haynes manuals, but never seen a reference to Clymer.

    Question: is the Haynes manual better than the Clymer? Would I be better off with that?

    Also: I looked for the official Yamaha service manual and found it for about $70 - is it worth that much if I have the Clymer?!

    Keep the Clymer, it is a little bit' better. The Haynes is usually better than No manual.

    There really isn't a Haynes manual for the XJ550 models.......only the Clymer. And in my experience, the Clymer manuals are not as good as the Haynes manuals.

    The combination of a Haynes (or Clymer) manual ALONG WITH the factory service manual should provide you with all the information that you could ever want.

    lm2) Original Factory Service Manuals are also available. These full-size manuals covers all aspects of diagnosis, repair, and assembly for specific model bikes. These brand new, official Yamaha manuals are one of those "must-have" tools if you're going to be wrenching on your own bike. Plenty of photographs, diagrams, flowcharts, wiring charts, torque values, etc. NOTE: cover design, color, and appearance will differ from originals.

    HCP1128 Factory Service Manual covers all XJ550 Maxim and XJ550 Seca models 1981-83.
