I have a new idea about why I am having so much trouble with #2 and #3 cylinders firing. I'm wondering if it's my coil pack. The right side coil pack is attached to the #2 and #3 cylinders. The wiring harness is pretty much trashed, broken and chipped. It's almost impossible to get an Ohm reading from it. It's somewhere between 2.5 and 20 Ohms, but never set on any reading for more than a fraction of a second. I'm wondering if I can just cut the wire harness out on each side and splice the wires together as a temporary fix, or is it likely I'll need to get a new coil pack? It seems pretty pricey for a used coil pack on ebay, and who knows if they are in good condition or not from looking at a picture. Any ideas?

swap the 2-3 coil with the 1-4 coil and see what happens

I hooked up a multimeter on the 2-3 coil and it's nowhere near spec on the high side. The low side seemed pretty good, except for the fact that one of the boots fell off after 1/2 turn, lol. Anyhow, I went to the local motorcycle graveyard and sprinkled some zombie powder on a coil from there. I was going to get them both, but the 1-4 coil on the parts bike was no good. I'll hook it up tomorrow and see what I can find. I have noticed that the plastic on the harnesses is not very resilient, as it's broken off on my bike and the parts bike, and every other XJ750 I've looked at in the last few months. I might see about finding new harnesses for the bike to replace all the broken ones, or ones that will surely break next time I pull them apart.
