Hey there. Just wondering if a 81 seca 650 turbo and or a 81 maxim 550 would have compatable parts with an 81 maxim 650. and if there are parts that will work, how many? is it worth me spending $200 on the 550 maxim? Id really like to get the exhaust and turbo from the seca if it will work.

    Thanks

So you already have a 650 Maxim, and you are considering a 650 seca turbo AND a 550 maxim parts bikes? Or are you considering getting the 550 so you can turbo it? For me this is kind of a "who's on first" until you clear it up.

Anyway, I don't think there's a whole lotta crossover between the engines on the 550's (chain drive 6spd, mikuni carbs) and the 650's (shaft drive 5-spd, hitachi carbs on Maxim)

Ya, i already got the 650 maxim, i want the 550 and the seca for parts bikes. i was looking around on the forum and found that the 650 seca and the 650 maxim have alot of compatible parts. Ive mentioned before, but im pretty new to bikes. Im pretty sure that the turbo is in the exhaust system correct? does it have to be hooked up to the engine at all?

Well im getting the maxim in a few days, dont have it yet.

The 550 is a completely different animal, as is the 650 Turbo. The Turbo motor has a lot of things specific to it being turbo-charged, it's not just something you can unbolt and bolt onto another bike. The turbo bikes are pretty unique unto themselves.

The only things that will interchange from the 550 would be some of the switches and handlbar controls.

Better to ask upfront then to spend a bunch of cash only to find that nothing will fit....smart move!!

I've received a few pm's over the last year asking how hard it would be to take the turbo and exhaust over to a 550, 650 or 750....when the writer finds out how much more there is than just the turbo and exhaust such as the bank of specialized carbs, boost sensor, knock sensors (2) , then the stuff that they can't adapt like the strengthened heads etc, they change their minds....still, it's smarter to ask first.
