    Do I need to disconnect the igniter box before doing the the test? I seem to remember reading that somewhere...

    I just did a test on all four a few hours ago for the first time. I didnt disconnect anything and had no issues. I dont know if my results are skewed because of it but nothing went wrong. But my bike isnt running either

    One thing to remember; with carbs mounted, compression test needs to be performed with the throttle wide open

    I've always disconnected it before doing the test, but only because Fitz suggested it. I'm not sure why either...

    Because you're not supposed to "light up" the TCI if there are no spark plugs (or you didn't ground the HT leads) as you risk cooking it.

    The manual(s) have you ground the plug wires. It's easier to just unplug the TCI.
