Ok, I am a little confused, I am rebuilding my xj750r seca front brake calipers, and I have a couple questions. Do the pads actually float back and forth on the pad retaining pin? My new pads were so hard to push down far enough to get the pin through, but I did get it, but the pads are basically squooshed down in there, I dont see how they'll move on the pin. Also how do they move with the notches that are in the (I think) anti rattle metal piece above them in the caliper body? My one calipers top part does float but still had the pad issue. the other one doesnt float and I am gonna address that. I sanded and cleaned the grime off my retaining and float pins, and my boots are good. thanks

I had a similar issue with mine, the pads were so bound up that I would not have been able to even get the caliper back on the bike. I ended up enlarging the holes on the pads just a tad so that they do not bind.

i thought about that or just sanding the flat edges on either side of the pads a little bit. I dunno, hopefully i get a few responses of suggestions and answers. thanks

Yeah, sometimes the paint on the pads is too thick. I would just drill it, too. I always put the slightest coating of anti seize on there, too.

If they're EBC's I think it's powder coating and I've had the issue as well where I needed to "clean up" the retaining-pin holes a tad.

The anti-rattle spring above the pads does put quite a bit of pressure on them; such that they don't necessarily slide freely back and forth but they can still move.

With those calipers, be sure the caliper itself is free (but not FLOPPING) in relation to the holding block. It should be able to slide freely.
